Dr. Rogers was born and raised in Miami Florida. After graduating from high school he attended nursing school at Jackson Memorial Hospital, also in Miami, graduating in 1978. Shortly after graduation, he married is lovely wife, Jill, who, coincidentally, is also a Registered Nurse. Mrs. Rogers serves as the practice Business Manager.

While practicing nursing, Dr. Rogers worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital from 1978 to 1981. Then, from 1981 to 1982, he worked in the Emergency Room at Hollywood Memorial Hospital, in Hollywood, FL. While working as an RN, he was completing the prerequisite courses required for admission into dental school.
Rogers_Jill_smDr. Rogers attended Temple University School of Dentistry from 1982 to 1986. Upon graduation from dental school, he served a two year pediatric dentistry residency at St. Christophers Hospital for Children, also in Philadelphia. After completing his residency, Dr. Rogers moved his family to Florida, where he began practicing dentistry. On January 2, 1990, Dr. Rogers purchased his current practice, and has been serving patients in the Central Florida area since that time.

Dr. and Mrs. Rogers have three adult daughters, who definitely get their good looks from their mother! The family enjoys dancing and a variety of sports, including softball, bowling, water skiing and snow skiing.

Diplomate, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Chen was raised in San Francisco California. She received her bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a biology tutor in the Student Learning Center leading study groups and mock exams for undergraduate students.

After college, she attended the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry for her doctorate degree. In dental school, Dr. Chen was an active member in student government. She was the class president in her first year and subsequently was the secretary and vice president of the student body government. She was awarded the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award, Bernard Osher Scholar and Professional Development Award for her exemplary role to the student body. In addition, her passion for outstanding patient treatment led her to receive honors in Patient Centered Care. Dr. Chen also actively participated in Delta Sigma Delta International Dental Fraternity, as the president of the fraternity, she promoted volunteerism and giving back to the community.

Dr. Chen completed her pediatric dentistry residency program at the University of California, San Francisco. She had 3 years of extensive training in treating medically compromised children and hospital dentistry. Not only did she treat the children in the San Francisco bay area, she also treated patients who traveled from the Oregon border to Los Angeles. During her residency training, Dr. Chen also completed her master’s research in caries prevention on arginine-containing toothpaste in orthodontic patients with white spot lesions. She received her Master’s degree in Oro-Craniofacial Sciences.

After her residency program, Dr. Chen married Dr. Jose Cruz, a general dentist in Winter Haven. She began working with Dr. Rogers in August 2010. She is enjoying this opportunity to serve children throughout the Central Florida area.

desimoneDr. Gianna De Simone, D.M.D.

Dr. De Simone is an affiliate member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association and the American Association of Women Dentists.

As a family dentist who has limited her practice to the treatment of children, Dr. De Simone treats each patient with the same care and consideration she would expect for her own two sons. She takes the time to get to know each patient, working with each one to provide the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Temple University.

She is married to Dr. Gerald Cerdan, a family dentist in Winter Haven. During her spare time she enjoys playing musical instruments with her two sons and traveling with her family.

Sharon DuCharme has worked in elementary education since 1973, when she graduated from the University of South Florida. She taught for one year in the Pasco County School system before she came to Polk County, where she taught for 34 years. In 1984, she was selected teacher of the year at Dundee Elementary. Her economics project, Professional Plant People for Production and Profit won the Disney Teacherrific Awards Top Program Award in the Elementary School Category, the Polk Economic Education Council Expo’s Peer Choice Award, and the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching Economics Honorable Mention in 2000. The next year her project on homes won a Polk County Economic Education Council award. In 2008, Sharon retired after 35 years of teaching. She has been a Dental Educator since January 2009.

Sharon visited 32 Schools last year. She visited 239 classrooms and educated 4,271 children on the importance of oral health and provided each student with a new toothbrush.

Dr-AlvarezDr. George Alvarez, M.D.

Dr. Alvarez received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine and completed residencies in Pediatric Medicine and Anesthesiology at Naval Regional Medical Center in Virginia and Pediatric Anesthesiology at the Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington DC.

Dr. Alvarez served as Chief of Anesthesiology and Clinical Practice Director at All Children’s Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine facility in St. Petersburg before joining Pediatric Dental Anesthesia Associates.

Dr. Hector Vila received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1989 and completed a 3-year residency in Anesthesia at the University of South Florida, where he received advanced training in Pediatric Anesthesia. At graduation he was the recipient of the Dripps Award for outstanding resident. He was certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1994.

Dr. Hector Vila is nationally renowned for his work to improve the quality of care in ambulatory and office based anesthesia. Dr. Vila has served as chair of the South Carolina Medical Association Taskforce for Office Surgery Guidelines. He was lead author of the study, “A Comparative Outcomes Analysis of Procedures Performed in Physician Offices and Ambulatory Surgery Centers”. Abstracts of this study received international awards and attracted national media attention. He was quoted in US News and World Report, CNN, Good Morning America, and numerous other media. He is considered an expert in the area of patient safety.

Dr. Vila is a Board of Medicine Office Inspector. He is currently the chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Ambulatory Committee and is on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has been asked to speak nationally and internationally on office surgery safety. Dr. Vila has been voted one of the Best Doctors in America, 2005, 2006, and 2007

Christy Preo, EFDA – Practice Administrator

I began working for Dr. Rogers in July 1998. I received my Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in January of 1999. I am certified in Radiography and Orthodontics. I also take several continuing Education courses. I was appointed as Clinical Coordinator in October 2006 and in October 2013 was promoted to Practice Administrator.

I love all the people I have met through the years, especially the little ones!

In my spare time my interests are my family, church and kickboxing.

ShannonShannon McNelis, EFDA – Clinical Coordinator
I started with Bright Smiles in 2011. I received my Expanded Functions in Dental Assisting Certification from the University of Florida in 2012. I was promoted to the Clinical Coordinator position in 2013.

I love spending time and talking with our patients, their funny stories and insights on life brighten my day. Also, I love spending time and going on outings with my work family.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my amazing husband Bob and sweet little boy Bennett. We like going to Disney and the movies together. I like reading and napping.

SharonSharon Cerullo – Business Team Coordinator

I joined Bright Smiles nine and a half years ago and in 2013 I became the Front Office Coordinator.  I love working with children and have done so for many years.

I was born and raised in Florida. I have lived in many places, but there is no place like Winter Haven.  In my personal time I like movies, reading, and spending time with my daughters and granddaughter.

PaulaPaula Dawson, EFDA – Financial Coordinator

I was born in Bartow, Florida, but raised in Lawrence, Michigan. I graduated from Lawrence High School in 2003. I moved back to Florida in 2006. In 2011, I received my Expanded Functions Dental Assisting certification & C.D.A. from Traviss Career Center. I started my internship at Bright Smiles and was lucky enough to be offered a permanent position. I was a dental assistant for 2 years and then made the transition to become the Financial Coordinator in September 2013. I am currently attending Polk State College, where I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, and am seeking a degree in Health Care administration. In February 2014, I married my best friend. On my free time I love to read and watch movies with my husband.

AngieAngie Bono, New Patient Coordinator

I was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Winter Haven Florida in 1995. I joined the Bright Smiles of Winter Haven Team in September of 2014 as the New Patient Coordinator.

Working with the children and to see them laugh and smile is what I like best about Bright Smiles.

I have two adult children and one granddaughter. These girls are my whole world. In my spare time I like to swim, go to the beach, visit Sea World and most of all I Love to collect anything with flip flops on it.

LeahLeah McDowell, EFDA

I am a former Bright Smiles patient. I joined the Bright Smiles team in 1997, and I received my dental education and training in 1998, at University of Florida.

In 2000 I married my wonderful husband, we have three beautiful children 2 girls and 1 boy.

I love spending time with all the kids and watching them all grow up throughout the years of my time here at Bright Smiles.

In my free time I like to hang out by the pool and spend time with the family.

I received my expanded functions dental assisting certification & C.D.A. from Traviss in 2011. I started working for Bright Smiles right after graduation. I am currently working on finishing my associate’s degree at Polk State College. I am currently training to become a member of the Bright Smiles’ Orthodontic Team.

CarolynCarolyn Loucks, EFDA

I received my Radiology License and my Expanded Functions Certification from the University of Florida. I have 6 years of Dental Assistant experience in General Dentistry, 20 years in Endodontics and 2 years in Pediatric Dentistry.

I love working the children. Always wanting children, and never having the opportunity to have them, it’s such a great fulfillment. I’m greatly honored.

I love to play music, cycle and garden. I am an accomplished musician, specializing in piano and organ. I have been married to my wonderful husband Ron for 31 Years.

 

Amber Stewart, EFDA

I was born in Maine to a military family. I lived in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years and moved around several times until we made Florida our permanent home in 1992. I graduated from Bartow High School.

I received my Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification and CDA from Travis Career Center in 2008 and have been a dental assistant with Bright Smiles for 7 years.

In 2010, I married my wonderful husband. We have 3 beautiful children, 1 girl and 2 boys. On my free time I like to read and spend time with my family. Being a Mother of three I really enjoy working with all the kids and I have built some amazing friendships over the years.

DanielleDanielle Kinstette, EFDA

I joined the Bright Smiles Practice in the summer of 2014. This was my first job in the Dental Field. I did on the job training and received my EFPA Certification through the University of Florida.

I am grateful to be able to impact kids lives everyday at my job and for many friendships I’ve made.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’ve been a musician for over 6 years and enjoy playing instruments. I also enjoy sports, drawing, and yoga.

I joined the Bright Smiles team in 2015. This is my first job in the dental field. I have experience working with kids at my previous job. I am so happy to be a part of Bright Smiles team and to continue to learn more.

I enjoy the great atmosphere and the friendships I have made here and how I continue to learn everyday. I like working with all the great children.

I am married to my amazing husband. I enjoy watching Netflix. I love spending time with friends and family. I like the outdoors and going to the beach. I enjoy crafting and decorating things.
